Broken Ink Volume 52

Broken Ink is USC Aiken’s Literary and Visual Arts magazine that is produced by the students to showcase campus community artwork, literature, and creativity in general. The group was founded in the 1970s and has successfully managed to reach over fifty volumes. They continue to showcase student’s creative exploits and serve as an outlet for students to relax and explore their imaginations while still studying on campus.

In my junior year of college, I was the layout editor of Broken Ink. I was to take all our accepted submissions and create the layout that represented USC Aiken and its students. I designed the cover as a way to pay tribute to the literary submissions rather than having a visual image for the focus. The layout inside was designed with the idea of browsing a gallery and the font was chosen to give off a classic but modern aesthetic.

Aiken Standard is one of the leadings news sources in Aiken, South Carolina. As a page designer, my responsibility was to take the content that was written by reporters and design the page within guidelines so that we could create an engaging, entertaining, and informative paper. Aside from the daily paper, I would also create the weekly smaller paper that would go out across the county to those who do not necessarily subscribe to the Aiken Standard, this is called the Aiken TMC.
